moonlight girl

girl stands on the Chinatown rooftop
moonlight washes her out against pastels and
she’s thinking about you
about how you leapt from this very spot

girl’s trying too
spreads her arms wide
encompassing the earth in one last hug
before she comes to join you on Pluto

girl rocks forward with bare feet
lets the wind kiss her cheeks and
the concrete jungle whisper goodbye

you’re calling
and the moon’s pulling
girl rises like a tidal wave
turning transparent in moonlight

eyes closed, she’s already leapt
her body follows one step too late
too clunky for where she’s going

girl’s drowning now
swimming through air
forgot a body was so heavy without the wings you took
from her
