VII. MARINA AND THE GREAT WALL PART 1
(after Marina and Ulay)

(Step)

I suppose we had a good run (walk)
I know they will look back and say
“How beautiful they were,
They fit all that love into nowhere”
We were never picket-fence-love
I suppose that is something to
Be proud about
But picket-fence-love always ends
With broken bottle
On the concrete driveway
And here we are
The path paved under our feet

(Step)

“I will meet you in the middle”
This is no place for goodbye.
You are on the other end
And my (step) moves me to you
But I believe we are here
Because you are on
The other side
Or I am

(Step)

I suppose this was necessary.
Enough time to look back and say
“We ate love at this dinner table.
We always asked for seconds.
We always washed it down with good wine
So meet me back home at the dinner table”
It was a belly-full-and-humble love
For so long I had rose thorns and bullwhips for breakfast
I know the aggressive nature of man
But with you it was picture frames and honey

(Step)

90 eternities between moon laps
I lived it all again.
There was something intrinsic in this world
And then there was the other
We fell into the latter
We fell into each other
Breathe into me
I still have flakes of you left in my lungs
I still cough you up sometimes

(Step)

When I met you there in the middle
I knew that the Great Wall was not
Under me
But in front of me
I would embrace you anyways
I couldn’t get my arms around
So I tucked into you
Let you engulf me
Like the Yellow Sea I came from

(Embrace)

We lived our entire time together in mural
We laid-barefoot to stone
And sleep-less love to rest that day
But I also laid the first brick
In the bare space
Between us
Even today
I have been unfathomable home

(Step Away)
