The number of people killed in a car crash near Denver has topped 100, officials said Sunday.
The crash occurred in the southbound lanes of the interstate at approximately 11:50 a.m.
Saturday near the intersection of I-25 and Colorado Boulevard, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.
The crash was reported to dispatch at the time.
The accident closed several lanes of Interstate 25 between I-50 and Interstate 30, according the Colorado State Patrol.
The driver of the car was taken to the University of Colorado Denver Medical Center in critical condition and was pronounced dead at the scene, officials with the Colorado Highway Patrol said.
The Colorado Department is conducting an investigation and will notify the families of the deceased.
The exact cause of the crash is under investigation, officials added.
